Presentation by Mastewal Taddese Terefe (Private Practice Lawyer, previously a legal fellow at the Ethiopian Federal Attorney General Office supporting justice reform efforts)

On 4 November 2020, the Ethiopian National Defense Force launched a military operation against Tigray People's Liberation Front in the Tigray Region. The operation was launched after Abiy Ahmed, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, declared that the Tigray People's Liberation Front had attacked a military base. The political and military confrontation has continued till today and poses a great danger not only to the future of Ethiopia, but the stability of the region.

Mastish’s presentation will contextualize the current crisis as well as provide a broad overview of events since the beginning of the war.
