Having spent four years as a lawyer in India, Lekha graduated as a Master of Public Policy at the University of Oxford in 2014 in order to bring multi-disciplinary approaches to her work.
Lekha is a senior policy analyst at WattTime, a US non-profit focused on making it easier to reduce electricity grid emissions.
Prior to joining WattTime, Lekha worked extensively on sustainable cooling and climate policy issues with the United Nations Environment and the Indian Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change in New Delhi where she helped create policies to reduce the use of short-lived climate pollutants. She was also a researcher at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water, one of South Asia’s leading climate think tanks.
In 2015, Lekha was awarded the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt International Climate Protection Fellowship. Her research focused on citizen ownership of renewable energy and how Germany’s successful policies could be adapted to developing countries.
Before studying at Oxford, Lekha has worked as a legal officer at the Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment in New Delhi, which has significantly shaped her career goals and outlook. She also holds a law degree from Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad, India (2009).
