Sarthak is currently an officer in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), serving as the sub-divisional magistrate and the primary coordinator of development activities and all other government functions in an area with a population of >1 million. Prior to this, he was a consultant in the Poverty and Equity Global Unit at the World Bank.

He has a BA in Economics from Delhi’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) and achieved the highest national aggregate in his school-leaving examination. Sarthak interned at the policy think tank ICRIER and in the Office of the Principal Economic Adviser to the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. He also published an empirical paper on bilateral investment treaties, which went on to win the best paper award at a World Bank-sponsored conference of South Asian economics researchers. He volunteered for 18 months at the international nonprofit Enactus, helping women manual scavengers, traditional Indian puppeteers and impoverished dairy farmers raise incomes and improve their living conditions in a sustainable manner.

Sarthak is based in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India.
