Samafilan is a paediatrician, researcher and global health practitioner.
She has worked in a number of very challenging settings including the Dadaab refuge camp on the Kenyan border with Somalia, in Liberia during the Ebola crisis (where she headed a team of 200 coordinating the response to Ebola in Monrovia), in Turkey where she again worked with (Syrian) refugees and in Mozambique after the cyclone Idai in 2019.
Samafilan has consulted for a number of international organisations including the Global Fund, the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) and the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI). She has worked and conducted research in Kenya, Mozambique, Djibouti, Somalia, Liberia, The Gambia, Turkey and Sri Lanka and most recently in Tanzania.
Samafilan is currently working with the WHO Africa offices in Brazzaville, Congo.
