John is currently a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Experimental Biophotonics at the University of St Andrews where he is working on developing single molecule and super resolution microscopy as a tool for ex vivo structural biology. He is also the founder and Director of the Scientific Arab Forum for Arab scientists and science communicators aiming to promote scientific excellence, enquiry and dialogue - to nurture and inspire curiosity, and shape science policy in the Arab World. Prior to this John had a postdoctoral associate position at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems before working as a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, combining advanced nanoscopy, microfluidics and automation for high-throughput characterization of protein aggregates implicated in neurodegenerative diseases.
John graduated in Physics from École Polytechnique (2012) in France after pursuing his undergraduate studies at the American University in Cairo (AUC) in Electronics Engineering.
