Deborah received a BA in Urban Studies in 2008, with distinction and honours, from Stanford University in the US. Through formative experiences in New York City’s East Harlem, Washington D.C. and her hometown of Cincinnati, she became committed to reducing urban poverty through community-based initiatives and policy reform. Deborah was Founder and Executive Director of Students Taking on Poverty (STOP), a social justice organisation at Stanford dedicated to educating students about poverty and homelessness in the US.
After graduating, she served on the policy team for Mayor Cory Booker in Newark, New Jersey, as a John Gardner Public Service Fellow. She worked as a family case manager and youth advocate at Community of Hope, a community-based NGO in Washington D.C. that works to improve quality-of-life for low-income and homeless families. She also volunteered for five months in Peru with a microfinance NGO.
Deborah is currently a Graduate Student at Yale Law School.
