Alan completed his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree at Stellenbosch University in 2012 before starting his career at Transnet National Ports Authority in South Africa which sparked his passion for port and coastal engineering. Pursuing this passion, he completed a Master of Engineering degree where his research focused on breakwater rehabilitation.
In 2015 he joined AECOM in both engineering design and project management consultancy roles related to the development of infrastructure in Africa. Before coming to Oxford he worked on the development of a new $1.5 billion container port in Ghana. Alan plans to one day lead a team specialising in financing and implementing sustainable infrastructure projects throughout Africa.
